Various religions Essay -- essays research papers fc
à à à à à Throughout the Hindu and Christian religion various rituals are performed by followers. These rituals allow the followers to celebrate in their beliefs. The most popular practice performed in almost every religion is prayer and or meditation. Prayer and meditation allow followers to come together and praise a God or gods. Hinduism has commonly been viewed as a polytheistic religion, one that worships multiple deities: gods and goddesses, while Christianity is a Monotheistic tradition. à à à à à Hindus believe in the repetitious transmigration of the soul. This is the transfer of one's soul after death into another body. This produces a continuing cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth through their many lifetimes. Karma is the accumulated sum of ones good and bad deeds. Karma determines how you will live your next life. Through pure acts, thoughts and devotion, one can be reborn at a higher level. Hindus practice yoga as a form of meditation. Yoga is a discipline for achieving psychological, mental, and spiritual isolation form ordinary reality. The act of meditation involves eight steps. The first being restraint control. This ethical discipline should lead to inner detachment. The second step is observance, the devotion to the god of oneââ¬â¢s choice. Posture, breath control, abstraction of the senses, concentration, and deep meditation are the last few steps. ââ¬Å"The yoga discipline seeks escape or release from the world and fr...

Dysfunctional Medical Insurance Essay -- Argumentative
Dysfunctional Medical Insurance A mom is waiting frantically in the local emergency room while her little girl continues to cry with pain. An hour goes by without any news as to when she will finally be treated. At last, their number gets called and they go over to the registration desk. The lady behind the desk opens their file and shakes her head in disbelief as she turns to look at yet another mother with remorse. She continues to tell the mother that the hospital has refused to provide medical attention to her little girl due to insurance problems. This scenario is sadly very common in the lower class families with little or no insurance coverage, in fact ââ¬Å"20% of the U.S. population lacks medical coverageâ⬠(Richman). While the initial idea of medical insurance seems more beneficial than not, the current health insurance situation has caused many negative repercussions for both the patients and the physicians. Some of these disadvantages include: denial of health care, compromised medical att ention, astronomical billings, privacy issues, discriminatory plans, and even possible risks of fraud. The original idea of medical insurance should have been a noble way to help Americans afford medical bills in a case of an emergency or just routine physicals and check-ups. A lot of Americans coming from different financial situations could not afford the emergency or even the customary treatments and would therefore go without medical attention. This obviously had dire consequences on the patientsââ¬â¢ health, thus forcing the need of an alternative option. ââ¬Å"Fortunately, a handful of physicians associated with Sacramento's Sutter General Hospital saw beyond the despair. Seeing a need for an alternative health care financing vehicle in the early 1930s, the doctors created the first open enrollment hospital insurance plan in the United Statesâ⬠(Sutter Health). As originally planned, this new medical insurance proposed benefits to both the doctors and the patients; patients could afford to be treated, while doctors could see more patients-even of the lower income clas s. Somehowââ¬âbetween then and now, the plan has been twisted and turned around so much that it has lost some of its greatest benefits and reputation. Because of the numerous loop holes in the current insurance plan, I believe that right now the drawbacks and disadvantages are overshadowin... ...been hit with a half of billion dollars in claims. As the extensity of this crime allows, there are many other issues to be dealt with besides just the insurance aspect. However, if insurance wasnââ¬â¢t implemented into our society or even if loop holes didnââ¬â¢t exist in this case, then this crime could not have been possible. Since insurance was introduced to our society, there have been many problems. Much like the little girl who was denied medical attention, many people suffer from these disadvantages of medical insurance. I believe that the medical insurance idea is argumentative, because there are a lot of repercussions that people may or may not have thought about. Besides the recent crimes being committed against them, the insurance companies are benefiting immensely, but are we? The prices of medical treatments are rising, the doctorââ¬â¢s attention to actual patients as opposed to who has insurance is diminishing, and less people are benefiting from health insurance. I do not think that medical insurance should have been proposed in the first place. I do admit that it should have been a benefit to Americans, but I have yet to see everyone benefit as initially planned.

Developing countries Essay
In this essay Iââ¬â¢m going to talk about this question. Since this is a very wide subject I could talk about only a single country or a single issue, but I will try to discuss about the whole aggregate. Some of the main points are starvation, education, child labor, safety and human rights. These issues are very different in developed and developing countries. Iââ¬â¢m also going to tell why these things are happening and how they could be improved. Probably the most important issue is starvation; the result of a serious, or total, lack of nutrients needed for the maintenance of life. First of all it is one of the few words in the English language with no synonyms. It is a word that stands alone. It should be fixed first. ââ¬Å"Why?â⬠You might think. ââ¬Å"Why starvation, not for example education.â⬠This is because, what is the point of building schools if the kids die because of hunger? There is no point. Starvation is the most important issue of all the developing countries. Of course if a country does not have this problem, it will try to fix the next problem. The next problem depends on the seriousness of the issues. Starvation is also a part of a developed country. If a country has starvation it is a developing country. This is one answer to the big question. But, if a country does not suffer from starvation it doesnââ¬â¢t mean it cannot be a developing country. There are developing countries without starvation. Their problems are, education, human rights etc. Some children are not strong enoughà to eat by themselves. The facts about starvation in todayââ¬â¢s world are shocking; today, there are some 800 million people who do not have access to sufficient food to meetà their needs. Nearly 12 million children under five years old die each year because of malnutrition in developing countries of the world. The two main questions about starvation are: why is it happening and how could it be stopped. Well, there are lots of answers because all the developing countries are different. Some have wars and some bad climate but the common thing is: they all have problems. This causes starvation. One source that I found even said that governments have the money and the abilities to get food for all the people, but they will get a great control by not giving the people food. ââ¬Å"Many diseases, foods and medicines are deliberately made to weaken and control people. Starvation, death and poverty, deliberately caused to billions of people will also give the powerful, greater controlâ⬠I donââ¬â¢t believe this, but you never know. The solutions to the starvation are actually pretty simple. Developed countries could send food and other products. But this is not so easy since nothing is actually free. Of course developing countries could loan money but then they have debts to pay. How are they going to do that? In 1997 the foreign debts of developing countries were more than two trillion (million million) US dollars and still growing. The result is a debt of $400 for every man, woman and child in the developing world ââ¬â where average income in the very poorest countries is less than a dollar a day. Another way is that the food among the people in the country could be shared equally to all the people. Rich people could give money to poor people. Good example of this is Bill Gates. He is the richest person in the world and is giving constantly food to charity. All these factors are solutions to the problem called, starvation. Education is another very important issue in developing countries. The more people getting educated, the more people solving problems. The wise man that said that was not Mark Twain, but me. Education is very difficult to get because books cost, schools have to be build, no one knows how to teach and families need kids to work and to get food for the family. If they go to school their parents might die of starvation. So these two problems areà linked. Another reason for so many girls not going to school is that they are pregnant and no longer allowed there. Education needs money but by only money it cannot be solved. There needs to be teachers who are willing to leave their homes and risk their health by moving to a developing country to teach. This is why there is so little education in developing countries. Education is very important to human future. People should get more educated. Education is really needed; there are about 132 million people today in developing countries that are not in school. But the fact is that you cannot just give the people computers and other technology. You need to help people to help themselves. This has been proved at several studies. For example one study was made when certain group of people in a University realized that people in developing countries donââ¬â¢t cook their food well enough. So they started importing high tech sun panel cookers to the country. This caused that people did not gather around the fire like usually. More people got killed by wild animals because the fire was not there to keep them away. All these things happened and it was because of too high technology. So the group was trying the quick way which does not work. Almost all the developing countries have a huge problem in human rights. This includes child labor and position of the women. Child labor is unfortunately very common in developing countries. Kids work all day and get really tired. If there would be good schools they would go to them instead of working. But what if the family will die because of hunger if the kid does not work? This links to starvation. All the problems are linked. The solution is that there should be help from better countries so that they wonââ¬â¢t die of starvation, kids should go to school and when they grow up they would be educated and could get a job. So until every human in the country is educated and can earn the money to live for their family, the country needs help from rich people, wealthy countries, their own government etc. Public safety as a problem is not as big as starvation or education but, this is the problem that anyone can have. Even in developed country public safety can be very low. It is difficult to get because you canââ¬â¢t get it neither with money nor political power. There needs to be more police and laws, but that does not solve the whole problem. If a person wants to start killing people on the street and does not tell anyone, who can stop him? No matter how fast a police officer shoots him, the safety is bad. As a conclusion to ââ¬Å"the big questionâ⬠I could say that the definition of a ââ¬Å"developed countryâ⬠is in everyoneââ¬â¢s own mind. The differences between developed and developing countries are for example starvation, human rights, public safety and education. All these except education are the basic needs of a person to survive. If personââ¬â¢s main needs are not satisfied that person is living in developed country. What comes to education, it is in between of a basic need and a luxury. A person can live without it, but with education he/she can go further and help their own country to develop.

Building a Brand Community on the Harley Posse Ride
Why or why not? $100,000.00 budget (Posse Ride II), is a good price for value comparing to other alternatives to advertise and build communities; The ââ¬Å"Posse Rideâ⬠is probably the most important MKT instrument to build and preserve internal aspect of Harley-Davidson product regarding its brand; The productââ¬â¢s meaning of adventure, freedom and even rebellious, works like a relief for the life responsibilities for its members; For human beings gregarious aspects are important and people have the necessity to belong to groups. What role should the Posse Ride play in the HOG events mix? ââ¬Å"Posse Rideâ⬠is the main instrument to connect company to the customers and to build the productââ¬â¢s brand concept. How should the Posse Ride be designed to maximize its effectiveness and profit-making potential, should you decide to keep it? ââ¬Å"Posse Rideâ⬠has to be kept. The following initiatives could be taken to maximize its MKT value: Export the event to coun tries that value US culture; Promote a Posse Ride pilgrimage in different countries at the same period (integrate and make the event bigger); Develop partnership (e.g. tourism companies) to capture higher value from the event; Develop other products aligned with the same image (e.g. perfume, clothing style, fast food chain, video-game, headphone, entertainment); Create a TV program or internet web site to post news and stories about ââ¬Å"Posse Riderâ⬠; Invite people abroad to participate;Develop strategy focused to tease young people and women to participate in the event; Connect Posse Ride to mega music shows (e.g. Rockââ¬â¢n Rio and Woodstock); Sustainable initiatives are welcome as well. How the Before-After survey data can help you with your recommendations? To measure trends of consume, make changes in the product and to identify new groups of customers; To assess points to be solved to obtain a higher memberââ¬â¢s satisfaction. How are brand communities build? Build a strong idea/concept that can aggregate people around it; Offer to them the opportunity to get in contact/socialize (events and internet); Provide new ideas connected to the main concept (innovate);Promote and coordinate meetings. How can we identify communities and its members? Assessing consume behavior; What is Harleyââ¬â¢s brand identity? Adventure, challenge, freedom, rebellious. Opportunity to take part of a big pilgrimage and a sense of belonging. What is HOGââ¬â¢s role in developing community for the Harley-Davidson brand? That is the bond that glues members around the product concept; It is what members receive to fulfill their expectations about the product.Evaluate Harleyââ¬â¢s attitude and performance in ââ¬Å"getting close to its customersâ⬠. Not just to get close to the customers, but more than that, to have an intimal and personal connection with them (they ride and have bears together along the Posse Rider); It helps to develop products and to keep str ong and alive the product concept in front of their customers; Harley-Davidson executives riding side-by-side with all members empowers the event and allow them to understand the companyââ¬â¢s connection to their customers.

I Never Expected This Essay
Hey guys, Iââ¬â¢m writing my English exam soon, and would really appreciate it if you can give me some suggestions one how to improve this piece. The word limit is 400~450, so Iââ¬â¢m a little over the limit here. Topic is: This is the story of a young man/woman who was able to escape from a difficult past to make a success of his/her life. My essay: ââ¬Å"This is the story of a young woman who was able to escape from a difficult past to make a success ofâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ I tuned off the school principalââ¬â¢s voice at this point, ignoring his excited gestures and flying spittle. I was eight then. The man came out of nowhere, and I remember pain, horror, screaming, torn clothes, more screamingâ⬠¦It was only afterwards, in the hospital, that I understood what had happened to me. Twenty years ago the society wasnââ¬â¢t exactly sympathetic towards rape victims; it still isnââ¬â¢t today. Principal Clarkeââ¬â¢s voice pulled me back to reality. I stood up to the pitiful round of applause, and walked up the stage. As I looked down, half the students were dozing off; and most of the other half had a snicker on their face. I putted on a smile, and began to tell my story in a grave voice: how I struggled to live with my past; how my family gave me hope and support; how, after years of hard work, I finally became a bestselling author. It is a boring old story, nothing unheard of before. And if this speech managed to inspire even one of these students, it would be nothing short of a miracle. Of course, there are things that a high school guest speaker just cannot include in her speech. For example, the way my mother indulged in various substances after my ââ¬Å"incidentâ⬠, and my father and I never sent her to the rehabilitation centre for the fear of even more publicity. Or better, how I found my puppy strangled and hung from a tree one day, the words ââ¬Å"WHOREâ⬠in red paint glistening right behind him. And the fact that my ex-boyfriend had left with all my money last year, leaving me too heartbroken to write is definitely unmentionable. If it was not for this, I would not have been stuck at this little school, allowing people to dig up my past for a minuscule payment in return. There are some things that a person simply cannot look past. I sat back down, and endured another hour of the old principalââ¬â¢s speech. Apparently, according to Principal Clarke, if I can live with been raped then the students can surely get over their teenage issues and focus on learning instead. His words are not what finally pushed me over the edge, though. It was his the way he looked at me ââ¬â as if I am some pathetic, filthy stray dog. I caught his eyes when he turned towards me again, and smiled until he hurriedly looked away. The next morning I rose early, and in the aroma of fresh coffee listened to the radio news reporting the shocking, gruesome death of a certain high school principal. I hummed to myself, and started typing my new story.

The Different Between Thai and American Wedding
The word marriage throughout the world has always been a symbol of unity between humans. Marriage represents in many ways the celebration of happiness for all people of different backgrounds, beliefs and cultures. When we look across the globe, we realize that in each place around the world marriages has its own traditional wedding. What are the weddings traditional in two different cultures? For example, Thai and American weddings have customs and traditions that are different in many ways. Initially, in traditional Thai weddings or marriages, an arrange marriage by a matchmaker or money dowries to future in-laws are considered the norm. In American weddings, two people fall in love and then a wedding is planned. In contrast, the Thai groomsmenââ¬â¢s families must give a dowry to the family of the bride. This arrangement is to guarantee a brideââ¬â¢s social and financial future will be protected and secured. Next, within American weddings religion has played the biggest role in how marriages are performed. For instance, Catholic wedding ceremonies are traditionally united in a church or place of worship, or may be married by an ordained priest outside of church. Many Thai people practice Buddhism, and in many Thai traditional wedding ceremonies, they are conducted in the presence of monk. Finally, wedding gifts are also common in both American and Thai weddings. The difference is in the kinds of gifts that are received. In the Thai custom, the bride and groomsman will typically present each other with a small gift and gifts that were given in cash by guests are placed in envelopes and then brought to a wishing well. In the American custom, wedding gifts are a way to help the couples set up their new home together. In conclusion, many people around the world have traditions really different from one culture to another. Nevertheless, marriages are considered a happy and most joyous occasion no matter where you are at in the world.
